MEET THE DRAGONS

Coach

Mike Bushell

I started dragon boat racing when membership numbers were only two figures, and the boats being raced were heavy two piece units!

Why do I do it? I have seen and experienced the results of individuals from all different backgrounds coming together as one and achieving. It's not all about winning - but it helps!

A tip for the newbies - take it slow and build your strength up. We don't want to break you!

Our pee-wees have a great time learning to play with friends. We focus on sportsmanship, teamwork and having fun with sports. If you have someone interested in joining this team, please get in touch today.

Would you like to join this fantastic team?

Jackie

Honorary Life Member

I started dragon boating when I began to approach the age of 50 (when life starts properly) and wanted to find a new pastime.

Eight years later I continue to be hooked! It's a good, fun way of keeping fit and I have met some lovely people of all ages who all support each other and work as a team - both whilst paddling and on social outings.

I have been dragon boat racing for 6 years now!

My favourite memory of the Soaring Dragons was going to the National Finals with an unknown and untested team, and beating teams from the sport's top league.

Pete

Treasurer

I only started in May last year when the club was founded!

My funniest moment so far with the Soaring Dragons has got to be when we won our first ever race at the Nationals.

As we crossed the finish line we all cheered and held our paddles in the air - only to be told off by the marshals as "the boat could have nearly capsized" - Oops!

I have been dragon boat racing since the team started in 2016.

My favourite memory would be our canoe trip on the Wye. It was a great opportunity to get to know people better.

But the best moment was coming round the river bend to find ourselves in the middle of a large charity raft event, having to dodge rafts in our canoes, avoid their supersoakers and then the eggs and flour raining down from spectators on the bridges!

I have been dragon boat racing since the first Soaring Dragons open day in May 2016.

New to DBR? Give it a go - you'll absolutely love it. But be warned, it might bring out a competitive streak you didn't know you had!

My favourite memory of the Soaring Dragons was our weekend away canoeing at Ross-On-Wye.

I enjoy dragon boat racing because everyone is slightly mad.
Being outside, getting soaked with a bunch of slightly crazy people is fun.

A tip for a newbie? Be prepared to get wet, but just give it a go.
