FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
DO I NEED TO BE PHYSICALLY FIT TO JOIN?
No is the simple answer. Of course it helps to be fit, but everybody has to start somewhere. We're a club of mixed ages and abilities, with some members having experience racing for Great Britain, and new members every month who have only just started off in dragon boating. We train through the year, and you'll be amazed to see how much your fitness will improve with regular training attendance. If you have real concerns regarding health conditions, have a quick chat with your GP.
WHAT DOES IT COST?
We know this is the question you really want to know about! For what you get, Soaring Dragons membership is extremely good value. The membership includes all general running costs for the club and weekly/bi-weekly training both on the water and in the gym depending on the season.

HOW DO I JOIN?
We offer every new potential Dragon the chance to experience a free taster session. Simply get in touch to book yours and we will answer any questions that you may have! It's important to note that any new paddlers should get in touch with us beforehand to book in these sessions. There's no obligation to join afterwards, but we're sure you'll be hooked. If you do love it, we'll give you a membership form. It's as simple as that!
WHAT DO I NEED TO BRING?
We supply the dragon boat, paddles, and life vests, but feel free to bring your own gear if you have it. For training please make sure you're wearing warm and comfortable clothing that you don't mind getting wet. Something waterproof is also handy! In terms of footwear, the most sensible option is to wear a pair of old trainers, water shoes or light walking shoes - again, a pair of shoes you don't mind getting a bit wet. Finally, make sure to bring a water/sports drink bottle and a snack if you need it!
